Hugh has more than 25 years of architectural experience, with 20 of those years in the design and development of a wide range of arts / cultural projects in western Canada. He believes that a successful Arts building balances design, the owner’s unique needs, and the needs of the community at large.

Art and architecture go hand in hand, but – lacking balance – the built form operates as sculpture without achieving the rigour of architecture. This balance can be achieved with all building typologies, and Hugh brings this level of rigour to all of Proscenium’s projects.

Hugh joined Proscenium shortly after its conception in 1997 and became a principal in the firm in 2005. Over his 20 years of experience working with Arts and Cultural Clients with Proscenium, Hugh has proven to be a natural leader and developed strong project management skills, along with a nuanced and practical understanding of the operation and day-to-day functioning of a wide range of building types. Hugh has been critical in the management, design and implementation of the majority of our performing arts projects and has a proven ability to set a vision for a project and lead the required team in the development of its design.
